Gok Wan- Through thick and thin

Usually I don't like celeb autobiographies, but reading Gok's I have learnt a lot about myself and felt and connection to Gok through the things he went through. He is so honest in his book and says it like it is, its hopeful and it gives anyone going through the same thing, the chance to have the power to make a change. This book will make you laugh and cry. But most of all it will show you that a bit of determination goes a long way!

fifty shades darker

Book 2 starts with more heat ache, well who expected that at the end of book 1? Thankfully it doesn't last too long. Of course Ana takes back the gorgeous billionaire, who promises to try and calm his darker side and admits he wants more than a submissive/dominant relationship from Ana. In this book Ana has to deal with Leila, an ex submissive of Christian one who fell in love with fifty shades and those feelings where not returned. Now suffering the death of her husband, her feelings for Christian resume. Of course once tracked down Christina helps Leila get the support she desperately needs. There is still plenty of sex in book 2 but maybe not as erotic as the first book, but it still offers what it says on the tin. With more of Christian's desperate clingyness and his need to run before he can walk. So with up and coming nuptials, Christian's past with 'Mrs Robinson' out with his family and a new unknown threat book 3 is surely going to be thrilling- in more ways than one!

Fifty Shades of Grey

So everyone is talking about it across the world. Most shops in the UK have little stock and now its going to be turned into a film! Yes fifty shades of grey is getting a review! This book has had both good and bad press. It seems the the world's female population are now considered porn addicts by the media! These books are in no way porn, there's a story and yes it is punctuated by a lot of sex most of it really kinky sex. And the response to it has been no different to when DH Lawrence released lady Chatterly's lover. The book isn't explicit as such, its has its moments but it isn't porn. Its erotica inn its simplest form! It starts like any of romance story, take into account this one has characters based on Twilights Edward and Bella. Ana is our story teller, a twenty something soon to be college graduate who happens to be a virgin. She lives with her highly motivated and first to speak best friend Katherine. Katherine is unwell when she should be interviewing super millionaire Christian Grey. Ana agrees to meet Christian and interview him. As she stumbles into his arms, nothing will ever be the same again for the the innocent Ana steele. Christian seems instantly captivated by Ana's presences and he goes about his means of wooing her like no other could. But he doesn't woo her with romance right away oh no, he tries to woo her with the idea of being his submissive! Basically that be getting whipped, caned, spanked, flogged ect ect while been obedient to the dominant. Ana trys and tests Christian from the outset and when she agrees to his rules of being a submissive, she tests him further by telling him, she is a virgin. Christian gets one of many firsts for himself. He makes love to her in his bed in good old vanilla fashion. When Ana does make it to the red room of pain as she calls it, her first encounter is one she doesn't mind, but she knows Christian has a dark side and worse still she is falling in love with him. The two soon shift from a sub and dom relationship to wanting more relationship. The only problem is that Christian, is very controlling sometimes too controlling. He scares Ana with his excitement for spanking but she's addicted to him and even as she walks away from him at the end of the book you know, it wont be for long.

One perfect Summer- Paige Toon

Paige Toon is one hell of an author. This book is no turn down, Alice is like every girl, we have all been there. Maybe not as spectacular as Alice manages to pull off first love but its a story we've all lived through.
Alice meets dishy Joe as he works for his nutcase parents. The pair fall in love quickly and Joe tells her secrets he would never tell anyone else. When Joe's brother is released from prison for Rape, things turn bad for Joe, he is once again used as a punch bag. He manages to escape but his suffering doesn't end there, Joe demands that Alice and her family leave Dorset before his family hurt them in some way. While Alice goes to pack, Joe leaves without a word.
Alice is heart broken, she goes to university her life is at odds and she misses out on bonding with her peers. One day she meets Jessie,he punts tourists around Cambridge, he lifts her spirits and she gains a job punting also.  While punting she meets Lukas a good looking physicist, who turns out to be a control freak who likes none of Alice's friends.   Alice is practically forced into marrying Lukas, with his mind tricks and games.  On the morning of her wedding, her best friend Lizzy shows her a film called strike, with its hunky lead actor Joseph Strike. Alice can't believe she has found Joe, but now Joe is a super famous actor. She marries Lukas all the same and goes back to the UK. Joe is every where when she returns home and to work, the kids love him and it appears so do her work mates. Lizzy encourages her to contact his agent. She does but fails to get through to him as she won't leave her number.
Over the next few months, Lukas' control freak behaviour seems to sign his own death warrant. Alice goes to London to stay with Lizzy for a few days, where Lizzy allows her to watch 3 of Joe's films, things change for Alice she knows she has to see him. As the girls come back from the cinema, Lukas is waiting to take Alice home he forces her to leave early, once in the car he throws a paper at her, where on the front page is news that Joe's brother is a rapist.
Alice keeps tabs on the news following the news a new story seems to break each day. The turning point seems to be when Lukas gets a job promotion and accepts the job without even asking Alice. She goes home for Christmas before hand Lizzy tells her Joe will be in London for his premier of his new film. She manages to get through the girls and calls his name, he looks up and sees her but is pulled away. Later that night she watches TV and Joe is on a chat show, as per usual Lukas has to ruin her Joe time by calling to speak to her, she misses his whole interview. As she searches the internet for the show, Lizzy rings and tells her she recorded it. Alice runs round to Lizzy's and watches in shock as Joe tells the chat show host he is still in love with his first love. Lizzy admits she called the show and gave them Alice's number. her phone rings its Joe. She arranges to meet him finally she is going to get the answers she needs.
When those answers come everything is different, its no longer closure but the start of something new, they run off back to Dorset and as thing progress they stay longer than they should, Lukas turns up once again and thankfullly finally gets his marching orders.  Alice as to resolves a few things so she returns to Cambridge to do just that, its a happy ending and its one with out Lukas.
There is way to much Lukas in this book for me, I was a Joe fan from the start and I really hope that Paige writes a follow up to this book, it would be nice to have a Alice and Joe book.
I loved one perfect Summer well worth the wait and I can't wait for the next. If you only read one book this summer make sure its this one!

Black Dawn- Rachel Cain

I have to admit right off I am a Rachel Cain fan. This one however was one that I found a little boring, it seems to be a thing for book 12 at the moment.  This has been the second book dedicated to the Draug being baddies. I think this why its been a bit dull.  I got confused when Shane was engulfed by the draug and he went into the 'dream' state. He had visions of things that where written to start with as though they were real. When he was saved I spent the rest of the book wondering if he was still 'dreaming' it.  It was endless but in the end as always the good guys win, and even though a good character was killed off at least another was saved, but the damage to that character is unknown.  Book 13 is out in November, I assume that it will see sisters Amelie and Naomi going up against each other for power.  At least the Draug are dead and Michael and eve are happy, surely things can be happy in Morganville can't it?

Deadlock- Charlaine Harris

I was really excited about this book, the last book 'Dead Reckoning' was excited and I hopped that would carry over. Although it was a good and enjoyable read, it failed to catch- The passion and heat of the other 11 books. Sookie Stackhouse, is never safe and dating a highly powerful vampire makes you're life even more fragile. King Felipe returns to Shreveport as he tries to piece together the disappearance of his second Victor. Eric throws a party for Felipe and his gang, he expects Sookie to be there by his side as his wife. But Eric's day man calls Sookie and arranges for her to arrive at 10, later than she should have. When she does arrive the party is in full swing, she finds Eric feeding from a girl who seems to have a death wish. A half breed were wolf with a aroma of a fairy, true death for anyone around a vampire. The half breed is told to leave. Moments later though she is found dead on Eric's front lawn and the police are investigating. This is the main issue through out the book, who is after framing Eric and who has kidnapped Warren, Eric's second day man? All figures point to Eric at the death of the girl. But as weird things start to happen to Sookie; mainly the amount of fairy that seem to be lingering around her house- she feels it may not be so clear cut. Once it is realised who was invovled in the kidnaps and the murder and that surprise for those plans, laid mainly at Sookie door and right under her nose. She then has to deal with the fact Eric's maker has promised his hand to another vampire. A vampire Queen. Eric doesn't want to marry the queen but if Sookie doesn't stop it with her magic, then he has no choice but to marry Fredya. Once those who conspired against Eric, the long tooth pack and Sookie are brought to justice, Jannalynn the not quite so normal second in command, decides she will try to take control of the long tooth pack, before they kill her. She takes a strike at Alcide, missing him but hits Sam instead. With powerful fairy magic that can only be used once, Sookie saves Sam's life. Eric leaves without a word knowing that now he has to marry Fredya. It finishes pretty much at that if you are a trueblood fan, then you have to read this book. I feel all authors specially those who write lots of books in the same series such as this, face a book once in a while that is pointless. This one is such but the TV shows start again soon and this is a nice refresher of the characters. Book 13 is scheduled from May 2013 but is as yet untitled.
